Griffin won a grant!

Griffin submitted project, ” Improving exercise recommendations for cardiovascular function for persons with spinal cord injury”, won a Deluca Foundation 2023 Seed for Science Grant. Congratulations Griffin!!

Sam passed her Prelim!

Samantha Hammack passed her preliminary exam in the Department of Comparative Biosciences in the College of Veterinary Medicine at UIUC. Her work examines muscle and bone crosstalk in the context of a young horse model. Specifically, she is looking at myokines, cytokines produced by muscle, systemically, locally, and in relationship with biomechanical forces.

TBL Past and Present at ORS!

ORS 2024 was in Long Beach, CA this past February. Current graduate students Mikayla Hoyle and Samantha Hammack each presented posters. TBL alumnus Dr. Roberto Pineda-Guzmán was there as a New Investigator Recognition Award finalist, and TBL alumna Dr. Sara Moshage was there presenting a poster both for TBL and a poster for her company, […]

Sara Graduated!

Sara graduated and will be doing bioengineering consulting with Exponent in Philadelphia starting later this fall. Congratulations Dr. Moshage!! You will be missed! Summary of Sara’s Research Fractures are the leading cause of racehorse fatalities, and more than 60% of fractures in the lower limbs occur in the third metacarpal (MC3) and proximal phalanx (P1) […]

Sam’s Paper Published: Novel genetic variant associated with globoid cell leukodystrophy in a family of mixed breed dogs

Sam recently published a paper in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine. In it, she identified a novel GALC variant that likely explains the Globoid cell leukodystrophy (GCL) disease present in a cohort of dogs. GCL is a fatal neurological disease in dogs, and the identification of multiple causal variants for GCL in dogs is […]

Griffin, Kellie, and Mariana at ISB 2023- Japan!

Mariana, Griffin, and Kellie had a great time at ISB 2023! Kellie and Griffin both presented their research on handcycling biomechanics and force prediction using machine learning at poster sessions. Everyone had fun exploring Fukuoka, Japan and trying lots of different foods! Both of their posters are linked below. https://uitbl.mechse.illinois.edu/files/2023/07/Sipes_ISBPoster_Final-2.pdf https://uitbl.mechse.illinois.edu/files/2023/07/Halloran_ISBPoster_2023FINAL.pdf
