New project on tibial loading in basketball players
Prof. Kersh and colleague Prof. Stu Warden from IUPUI will be working on a new project funded looking at the effect of loading on the tibia during different activities to understand how loading and fatigue influences the strain distribution in bone. Thanks to the NBA and GE Sports and Orthopedic Medicine Collaboration grant for funding this work. […]
TBL member Hafiz is on a roll!
Congratulations to Hafiz Rahman, TBL PhD student! Hafiz recently passed his prelim with flying colors and his review paper on the effect of rotator cuff tears on shoulder biomechanics has just come out. Way to go Hafiz!
ASBMR 2017
Another great ASBMR meeting – this time in Denver. We were excited to have our poster on mechanics featured at the bone fragility symposium and two posters during the main meeting. Thanks to our collaborators Thomas, Christina, Jesper and Jean-Marie in Denmark.
Fall 17 kick-off
We had a great time getting together before the start of the Fall 17 semester. It was all fun and games until the Connect-4 tournament started. Congratulations to Zeeshan as the Fall 17 C4 champion!
TBL wins in and out of the lab…
August has been a great month for the lab. TBL graduate students Jason Kim, Sara Moshage, and John Shanley participated in a local run. John was first in his age group for the 5k, Jason was second in his age group for the 10k, and Sara got third in her age group. Prof. Kersh attended the ORS […]
TBL @ Midwest ORS Workshop
TBL members presented posters at the 2017 ORS Midwest Workshop. Great job to Hafiz, Hyunggwi, Sameer, John, and Jason! Thanks to Hyunggwi and Hafiz for the photos!
New TBL members – Sara Moshage and Chenxi Yan
Welcome newest TBL members Sara and Chenxi! Sara has a BS in Bioengineering and has returned to UIUC to complete an MS. Sara will work with VetMed Orthopedic Surgeon Annette McCoy to study equine biomechanics and fracture risk. Chenxi completed his BS in Mechanical Engineering and has continued at UIUC. Chenxi is interested in bone mechanics […]
TBL @ SB3C 2017
Prof. Kersh presented the work of TBL MS student, Lydia Bakalova, during the bone biomechanics session at the Summer Biomechanics, Bioengineering and Biotransport Conference. The talk centered on our investigations of cortical bone pore mechanics and investigating structure-strength relationships using finite element models. Great job Lydia!!
New paper out in Frontiers in Physiology
Prof. Kersh and colleagues from the University of New South Wales published a review of multi-scale musculoskeletal mechanics related to exercise and physical therapy. Read the article here.
