Roberto and Sara rock their presentations at SB3C 2022!

Roberto, Sara, Mariana and Elahe recently returned from the SB3C annual conference in Cambridge, Maryland, where Roberto and Sara both gave podium presentations. Roberto presented his talk entitled “Effect of Mechanical Loading on the Microstructure and Diffusion Imaging Properties of Ligament-Mimicking Fibers” which highlights the need for structure-function relationship that relate DTI metrics to mechanical properties of ligament-like fibers (yarn) and his progress so far in developing these relationships. This project lays the groundwork for relating DTI metrics to ligament mechanical properties.

Sara presented her talk “Elastic Strength and its Relation to Mineral Density in Juvenile Equine Bones of the Lower Limb” as part of the PhD-level student paper competition. Her work presents density-modulus relationships, which are needed to develop finite-element models from in vivo clinical CT, for juvenile bones in the lower limb and highlights the need for different relationships depending on the age of the bone, anatomical location, and loading direction. Sara went on to win her division of the student paper competition!

Roberto presenting to a captive audience at SB3C. He was definitely the best presentation in his section.
Sara getting in the mode of her presentation, forgetting the jitters, and starting to bring out the hand motions.
